Preliminary health examination for a conscript

Every conscript must have a health examination according to law. The health examination needs to be done before the autumn call-ups.

Are you subject to conscription?

The conscription event is organized by the Defence Forces, where you receive information about military service. All individuals subject to conscription are invited to attend.

You are a conscript if you are a man, a citizen of Finland, and one of the following applies to you:

  1. You are a Finnish citizen
  2. You are a man
  3. You will turn 18 this year.

What do I need to do?

You need to make sure you attend the health examination yourself before the conscription event. Conscription is usually organized later in the year, from August to December. It is therefore advisable to have the examination before August.

Book an appointment well in advance to ensure you have time to complete the examination!

If you are a student

you can book an appointment for a health examination directly from your own nurse at the student healthcare.

If you are not a student

book an appointment for a health examination at your own health centre.

Call the Social and Health Centre in your area to book an appointment.

Prepare for the conscript’s health examination

The health examination includes two separate visits, first to see a nurse and later to see a doctor.

Ennen terveydenhoitajan vastaanottoa:

  1. Answer the questionnaire in advance.
    • You will receive the questionnaire when you book an appointment.
  2. Bring along to the health examination
    • identification, in other words passport or driver’s license
    • completed questionnaire
    • glasses and information about their power, if you have glasses
    • other information related to your health, like evidence of sickness, vaccination certificate.
