Assessment of Ability to Work and Function

We assess your ability to work and function if you need support when returning to work, if you want to find out how your ability to work is like, or you need help in finding the correct services.

The assessment of your ability to work and function starts with the health check for the unemployed.

Health Check for the Unemployed

• You can report that you want a health check with an electronic form or by calling the health centre’s number for booking appointments
• A health care professional or an employment advisor can book the appointment with you.

During the health check your state of health is assessed and you will be guided to continued treatment, when needed. If necessary, the need to rehabilitate your ability to work and function is assessed by a doctor, and you will be guided to Social Services.

Based on the health check for the unemployed and the assessment of your need for services the professionals can recommend that your ability to work and function is assessed.

During the assessment of your ability to work and function:

• We survey your entire situation and assess your need for services
• We offer social rehabilitation or rehabilitative work activities
• When necessary, you get help from the Social Services
• You can have a health check for the unemployed
• Together, we make the different services work well, and we guide you to further services, when necessary.

When we assess your ability to work and function, we take into consideration your life situation in many ways, and things that affect your life situation.

A multisectoral team helps to evaluate your ability to work and function and to find the right services and possibilities to rehabilitate you. The team evaluates your situation and guides you to further investigations and supporting services, when needed.

The team includes:

• Leading Social Worker
• A doctor and a health care professional
• A Social Counsellor from Social Rehabilitation and a Social Counsellor from the multisectoral team for promoting employment
• An Occupation Therapist from the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and an Occupational Therapist from Medical Rehabilitation
• An employment advisor and a professional from Kela, when needed.
