Support relationship activities

Support relationship activities means support persons and support families. Support persons and support families support you. They participate in your life and can help in many ways. Support relationship activities are a social service that the wellbeing services county can grant to you or your family. Support persons and support families are volunteers. On this page we tell you more about support relationships, that is, what support persons and support families do.

We will first assess whether you need a support person or a support family. After that, we make a decision.

TA support person is a volunteer who participates in your life. This person is reliable and safe and has time to help. This person helps you where you need support.

A support person may, for example,

  • help you in relationships
  • help in everyday life
  • help you to find your own strengths
  • listen to your sorrows
  • help with school attendance
  • encourage in hobbies
  • support young people in starting an independent life.

We will make an agreement on a support relationship together. Guardians must always accept a support relationship if the child is under 18 years old.

The support persons are always bound to secrecy, meaning that they are not allowed to tell anyone about the family’s matters. They remain bound to secrecy even after the support relationship ends.

A support family supports the everyday life of another family with children. Children can spend time with the support family, so their parents can rest. Children can visit the support family, for example, one weekend each month.

All kinds of families, including single-person families, are suitable as a support family. We make an agreement for a support family together with a family social worker.
