Rescue operations are about saving or protecting people, things and the environment in the case of an accident. Accidents include road accidents or fires.

Emergency medical services are provided in cooperation with HUS.

The emergency response center dispatches emergency medical services in urgent situations, which may be caused by illness or an accident. When EMS arrives at the scene, paramedics assess the need for care and evaluate how urgently treatment is required. If necessary, they can begin treatment at the scene or during transport.

The patient does not always need to be transported by EMS for further examinations and treatment. In some cases, the patient can remain at home or seek further care independently. In these situations, paramedics provide guidance to the patient and their relatives on what to do next.

In addition to life-saving tasks, EMS also handles non-urgent cases. An essential part of paramedics’ work is advising and guiding patients and their families.

EMS actively cooperates with other authorities, such as rescue services, the police, and other social and healthcare providers. In more critical medical emergencies or accidents, several units from different authorities are often dispatched to the scene.
