In a health check for informal carers, we will assess the informal carer’s well-being and aim to increase it. The check will also help us to prevent diseases.
The health check is voluntary for informal carers, but we recommend it. It would be good if the check would be done every two years.
Informal care means that a close person takes care of another person. For example, a family member can be your caregiver.
What is done during the health examination?
In the check for informal carers, we will assess both health and wellbeing, and also:
- We will talk about the positive and negative sides of informal care
- We will talk about the situation of the person being cared for
- We will talk about problems in the memory and behaviour of the person being cared for
- We will talk about your support network
- We will talk about the situation in the home
- We will talk about the needs of assistive equipment
- We will talk about support services
- We will talk about the possibilities of rehabilitation
- We will assess your ability to function
- We will find you ways to improve your health.
A health examination improves your well-being and can help prevent illnesses
You can register for a family caregiver’s health examination by phone or electronically using a form. The health examination can be conducted online via a remote appointment or in person at the health center.
If you live in wellbeing services county of East Uusimaa: book an appointment for the check at your own health centre.
If you live outside the wellbeing services county of East Uusimaa: book an appointment for having the check in Sipoo or HyVä-digi online chat.

Opening hours: Monday–Friday from 8:00 to 16:00. We will call you back within 7 business days.
Follow the instructions you receive over the phone. Schedule an appointment for laboratory tests if the professional advises you to do so.
- Fill out the electronic registration form.
- You can complete the form either while logged in or without logging in.
- In the form, choose how you want the health examination to be conducted: remote appointment.
- A healthcare professional will respond to you by email.
- You will receive an email within 7 business days.
- The email will include instructions for:
- Participating in laboratory tests
- Participating in the remote appointment.
Follow the instructions you receive and schedule an appointment for any necessary laboratory tests if the professional advises you to do so.
- Fill out the electronic registration form.
- You can complete the form either while logged in or without logging in.
- In the form, choose how you want the health examination to be conducted: select the health center where you want the examination.

Follow the instructions you receive and schedule an appointment for any necessary laboratory tests if the professional advises you to do so.
A professional will contact you once you have registered for the health examination. They may call you or send you an email. You will receive further instructions on how to prepare for the examination.
Before the examination, we will conduct an initial assessment of you. The assessment provides information about your health for the examination. If necessary, the initial assessment may include laboratory tests. You will receive detailed instructions from the professional.
How to prepare for the health examination:
Schedule an appointment for laboratory tests if the professional requests it.
- You will get the referral when you book an appointment.

- Opening hours: Monday to Friday at 7.30–15.30.
- Do not eat anything for 12 hours before blood tests!
- You will receive more instructions on how to prepare for blood tests from the appointment service.
We will review the results of the laboratory tests during the health examination. You can contact a nurse before the health examination if you have any questions. In that case, call the health examination callback service.

This is how to cancel an appointment for a health examination
You can cancel your health examination appointment by calling the health center’s appointment service or by sending a message in HyVä-digi.
Cancel your appointment at least 24 hours before the scheduled time. You will be charged a fee if you do not cancel on time and are over 18 years old.
- Call your health center. If you live outside the wellbeing services county of East Uusimaa, call the Sipoo Health Center.
- On the phone, select the option ‘cancel appointment.’
- Leave a message on the answering machine.
- In the message, state that you want to cancel your health examination appointment.
- You can leave a message on the answering machine at any time of day.
Cancel your appointment at least 24 hours before the scheduled time. You will be charged a fee if you do not cancel on time and are over 18 years old.
You can cancel your appointment in the HyVä-digi nurse chat.
- You can open the chat on any page using the ‘Start Chat’ button.
- The button is located in the lower right corner of the page.

- In the chat, state that you want to cancel your health examination appointment.
