For students, dental care is available in the same municipality where the studies are carried out.

Orthodontic treatment is done to correct somebody’s bite. If there is a problem with somebody’s bite, the teeth do not work as normal. This can make many things in life difficult. Orthodontic treatment can also help if the teeth are cramped inside the mouth. Orthodontic treatment can last many years.
Orthodontic treatment is free of charge for people under 18 years of age. We follow up on children’s bite during dental examinations. We will direct a child to orthodontic treatment when needed. Small faults do not usually require orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic treatment is usually done to children aged 6–17 years.
Orthodontic treatment is specialised oral care. You need a referral to be able to visit a specialist dentist.
You can only receive orthodontic treatment if you fill certain criteria. If you do not fill the criteria, you can purchase orthodontic treatment, for example, at a private dental clinic.
How does orthodontic treatment work?
We check occlusion, in other words children’s bite, ever since they get their first teeth. We will follow up on how the bite develops until we know if the child needs orthodontic treatment. We can start the orthodontic treatment already with milk teeth.
We will start the orthodontic treatment if
- the jawbones are of different sizes
- there are big difficulties in bite of the front teeth
- the teeth have a crossbite
- the teeth are cramped
- there is a problem related to teething.
TFirst, we make the child a treatment plan. We discuss it together with the child and his/her guardians. Orthodontic treatment is voluntary. This means that you can decide yourself if you want to receive treatment or not.
You need to follow instructions if you decide to start the orthodontic treatment. The orthodontic treatment works best if you follow instructions.
Your treatment is not continued if
- you do not follow instructions
- you do not come to the appointment.
You must pay for new braces if you misplace them..
Here you can explore the waiting times for dental care. The waiting time indicates how long patients wait to receive treatment in different municipalities. Waiting times are measured only for non-urgent appointments. Therefore, emergency care waiting times are not included.
